A Clamor for Professional Advancement
The exceptional advancement of knowledge throughout the world necessitates the professionals, irrespective of their calling, to keep themselves abreast with new trends and competencies. Consequently, making learning their lifelong endeavor. As the health care industry expands, opportunities for graduate degrees are increasing dramatically. The demand for their services both locally and internationally, requires continuous enhancement of their enterprise to achieve and maintain their competitiveness. This is particularly true for the nursing profession and other members of the health team.
The clamor of health practitioners for professional advancement caught the attention of the local universities. Thus, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila took the initiative in responding to these needs. By virtue of Board Resolution No. 2329, the Graduate School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences was created as an independent graduate school on 10 January 2001, separating it from the Graduate School of Arts, Sciences, Education and Nursing (GSASEN). With her dedicated character and leadership, Dr. Marilyn R. Coladilla was designated as the first Dean of GSNAHS. On 02 April 2002, under the authority of Board Resolution No. 2467, GSNAHS was re-organized to include other graduate courses in Medicine, Physical Therapy, Community Health Services and Hospital Administration, thus, given a new name of Graduate School of Allied Health Services.
