Graduate School of Law

Philosophy and Objectives

Vision

The PLM Graduate School of Law, inspired by the legacy left by the late President Diosdado Macapagal whose brilliance, integrity, and devotion to public duty and service, concern for the common people, specially the poor and underprivileged desirous of achieving higher learning in the midst of economic hardship - envisions to promote and develop educational advancement, leadership and sense of patriotism among members of the Philippine Bar which include practitioners, prosecutors, and judges.

As an institution of higher learning in the field of Law, the PLM Graduate School of Law has opened its doors to qualified Lawyers, whether in active practice or in the goverment service. Many are attracted to the legal profesion because of the promising opportunities it offers. Thus, thousands of Filipino professionals enroll in various law schools (more than 100) to attain law degrees in four (4) years time and undergo rigours and pains of Bar Examinations given by the Supreme Court Notably, only a small percentage of the examinees make it each time. Not all who finished law (L.L.B.) become Lawyers.

While law schools train law students to become effective and efficient practitioners, little attention is devoted in the molding of the students to become service oriented and promoters of social actions. They intend to forget their social obligation to serve the poor who cannot afford the services of lawyers, such that many lag in jail although innocent or suffer penalties more than they deserve or lose defensible cases without reason.

The Law profession has been erroneously perceived as a money-making trade or pursued like business when its main objective is actually to help the country in the dispensation of justice so that harmony, peace and order, and sincere cooperation among the people may be realized for the good of all. This erroneous perception must be subdued through good examples.

Mission

The administration of Justice is not possible without the genuine pursuit of truth. Cases are tried only for the purpose of finding the truth in disputed issues by presentation of allowable evidence as guide for the courts.

  • The PLM Graduate School of Law will take the lead in urging and encouraging lawyers to be faithful to their Oath of Office, that they shall maintain their allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines, obey its Constitution and the orders, rules and regulations of duly constituted authorities, to be steadfast and honest, avoid falsehoods, to be loyal to the courts and to the clients, and not to pursue groundless and baseless suits, nor delay justice for money or malice.
  • The PLM Graduate School of Law stresses the noble mission of lawyers and judges as well. It will likewise assist in raising the high standards of the legal profession needed in the effective and efficient dispensation of justice for the good of the country, and in contributing meaningful efforts in the pursuit of global peace, and cooperationthrough law and universal understanding.
