Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Nelson Celis visited the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) campus on Monday, November 7 in a homecoming of sorts.

The former Executive Vice President visited the University as part of exploratory talks to prepare for a collaboration project on expanding stakeholders' and voters' participation well ahead of the next elections.

Commissioner Celis came with representatives from the Office of Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia, who also once served as a member of the PLM Board of Regents.

The University also partnered with the poll body for a voterโ€™s education campaign running up to the May 9, 2022 elections, which both institutions would like to sustain and expand.

โ€œWe are thankful and honored to welcome Commissioner Celis back to our beloved PLM campus, as well as for Comelecโ€™s trust that we can support initiatives to better prepare the Filipino electorate for future elections,โ€ PLM President Emmanuel Leyco said.

โ€œItโ€™s never too early to start with voterโ€™s education initiatives, and we consider this as our way of contributing to nation-building,โ€ he added.

More details about PLM and Comelecโ€™s prospective partnership will be announced once available.
