Two lawyers currently enrolled at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Graduate School of Law (GSL) are among the newest appointees within the Judiciary.

Graduate student Judge Peter Kate Maningas has been appointed as a Municipal Trial Court judge in Guimba, Nueva Ecija. He is a former Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer at the Office of the Ombudsman for Luzon.

Another GSL student, Judge Esmeralda Valerio-Morada, has also been handpicked by President Rodrigo Duterte to serve as the judge for the Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 2 of Angeles City in Pampanga. She previously worked as a public prosecutor of the National Prosecution Service.

“Congratulations to our newest judges! May your PLM education fortify your sense of integrity and justice as you rule on cases that land in your courts,” University President Emmanuel Leyco said.

The Supreme Court made public the formal appointment of 21 new judges in Central Luzon, which included the two PLM GSL students.

Appointment to the courts involves a two-step process. First, an applicant must make it to the shortlist of the Judicial and Bar Council, which is then forwarded to Malacañang for the President to make the final choice.
