The administration of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) prepared a special gathering of students to celebrate National Students’ Day on Thursday, November 17.
PLM President Emmanuel Leyco, Board of Regents Chairman Francisco Roman, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Clydelle Rondaris, and Office of Student Development and Services Dean Vilma Dela Cruz delivered messages of support for members of the student body in a brief ceremony and talent show of sorts held at the University Activity Center.
“Happy Students’ Day to our valued students! Beyond providing quality education, we want PLM to serve as a safe and free space, a platform to nurture talent, and provide support for physical and mental well-being,” President Leyco said in his speech during the afternoon event.
Performers presented song numbers to entertain their fellow students to mark the occasion while leaders of various student organizations delivered solidarity messages.
The National Students’ Day is observed every November 17 by virtue of Republic Act No. 11369 signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte. The law seeks to recognize the contribution of student activism to Philippine democracy, tracing its roots to anti-Nazi movements.
This is PLM’s first face-to-face celebration of the National Students’ Day since the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020.
